The crash happened around 12:30 PM local time during a private flight from Melton Airport to an undisclosed destination. According to witnesses, the aircraft went down in flames in a large property outside Castlemaine, leaving the plane completely destroyed.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, but sadly, there was nothing they could do to save the pilot. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by authorities. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is also involved in the investigation, though their involvement may be limited as the aircraft was classified as a recreational ultralight.

Local residents described hearing a loud bang and seeing a parachute deployed before the impact. The plane's recovery parachute may have been deployed too late to prevent the crash.

As the investigation continues, more details about the circumstances surrounding the accident are expected to emerge.
