A Ryanair passenger flight was forced to declare an emergency on Friday 3rd October 2025 evening after being unable to land in Scotland because of Storm Amy.
Flight FR3418, a Boeing 737-800, took off from Pisa at 15:28 UTC and was due to land at Glasgow Prestwick Airport. Strong winds meant the crew aborted two landing attempts at Prestwick around 18:06 UTC and again 30 minutes later.
The pilots then diverted to Edinburgh, but poor weather forced them to break off the approach there as well at 19:09 UTC.
Running low on fuel, the crew declared a "squawk 7700" emergency code and diverted to Manchester. The aircraft landed safely on runway 23R at 19:52 UTC.
No injuries were reported, and the plane was not damaged. Storm Amy caused widespread disruption across the U.K., with several flights affected by high winds.
