BREAKING: Air India Boeing 787 Crashes Near Ahmedabad – 246 Feared Dead

Ahmedabad, India – Thursday, June 12, 2025 | 13:40 LT Tragedy struck in Ahmedabad today when Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD). The flight was En route to London-Gatwick Airport (LGW). According to early reports, 241 of the 242 people onboard are feared dead, with one survivor critically injured. The crash also claimed the lives of at least five people on the ground, bringing the total fatality count to 246. The aircraft, registered VT-ANB, took off from runway 23 and remained airborne for approximately 30 seconds. Eyewitnesses and videos reveal that after climbing for about 12 seconds, the aircraft began losing altitude. The landing gear was still extended during descent. The main landing gear struck the top floor of a doctor’s hostel, reportedly housing a restaurant. Emirates SkyCargo Orders Five More Boeing 777 Freighters to Modernize Fleet

Carrier doubles 777 Freighter order book to 10 as it renews fleet with the industry's most efficient and capable twin-engine freighter. 



Emirates said in a statement on July 16, 2024, that the new order comes off the back of strong growth so far during financial year.

Emirates SkyCargo has ordered five additional Boeing 777 Freighters, doubling its order book to 10 as part of a plan to modernize its fleet.

This investment will increase Emirates' main deck cargo capacity by 30% by 2026, supporting growing demand and aligning with Dubai's economic goals.

The 777 Freighter offers significant range and payload capabilities, enabling long-range, nonstop flights.

Aero times report Emirates' fleet will grow to 17 freighters, including converted 777s and 747s.

The 777 Freighter is the company’s best-selling freighter plane of all time with more than 265 deliveries to date. 

Emirates SkyCargo’s cargo fleet, which includes belly capacity on passenger jets, comprises of Boeing 777s, 777Fs, 747Fs, A350s, and A380s. 

With the additional order for five 777 Freighters, Emirates’ total order book stands at 315 widebody aircraft.
