United Airlines Flight Diverts to Osaka After Fire Alarm; No Fatalities Reported

Osaka, Japan – A United Airlines Boeing 737-824 (registration N39297) operating as flight UA32 from Tokyo/Narita to Mactan–Cebu diverted to Kansai International Airport on Friday, September 12, 2025, following a fire alarm in the aft cargo compartment while cruising at 34,000 feet south of Japan. The aircraft, carrying 142 occupants, declared an emergency around 18:30 local time and landed safely on runway 24L at Kansai at 19:08. After exiting the runway, the aircraft stopped on a taxiway, where an emergency evacuation was conducted between 19:29 and 19:41. Five passengers sustained minor injuries, such as bruises and scratches, during the evacuation. Some passengers reported detecting a burnt smell in the aft cabin. Emirates SkyCargo Orders Five More Boeing 777 Freighters to Modernize Fleet

Carrier doubles 777 Freighter order book to 10 as it renews fleet with the industry's most efficient and capable twin-engine freighter. 



Emirates said in a statement on July 16, 2024, that the new order comes off the back of strong growth so far during financial year.

Emirates SkyCargo has ordered five additional Boeing 777 Freighters, doubling its order book to 10 as part of a plan to modernize its fleet.

This investment will increase Emirates' main deck cargo capacity by 30% by 2026, supporting growing demand and aligning with Dubai's economic goals.

The 777 Freighter offers significant range and payload capabilities, enabling long-range, nonstop flights.

Aero times report Emirates' fleet will grow to 17 freighters, including converted 777s and 747s.

The 777 Freighter is the company’s best-selling freighter plane of all time with more than 265 deliveries to date. 

Emirates SkyCargo’s cargo fleet, which includes belly capacity on passenger jets, comprises of Boeing 777s, 777Fs, 747Fs, A350s, and A380s. 

With the additional order for five 777 Freighters, Emirates’ total order book stands at 315 widebody aircraft.
