Pilot Killed in Cessna Citation Crash Near Mesquite Metro Airport

Mesquite, Texas — A Cessna 525A Citation CJ2+ jet crashed shortly after takeoff from Mesquite Metro Airport on Thursday morning, resulting in the death of the sole pilot on board. The aircraft departed runway 18 at approximately 7:33 a.m. local time. After lifting off, it executed a right turn and climbed to about 950 feet before entering a rapid descent. The final recorded data indicated a groundspeed of 196 knots with a descent rate of 2,750 feet per minute. The crash occurred in a wooded area near East Cartwright and Lawson roads, about a mile from the airport. Emergency responders extinguished small fires at the scene. Southwest Airlines Flight WN2504 Aborts Landing to Avoid Runway Incursion at Chicago Midway

Chicago, IL – February 25, 2025 – A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 narrowly avoided a potential runway collision at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) after a runway incursion involving a Bombardier Challenger 350. The incident occurred at approximately 14:48 UTC when Southwest Airlines flight WN2504, arriving from Omaha-Eppley Airfield (OMA), was on final approach to land on runway 31C. As the aircraft was about 500 meters from the intersection, a FlexJet Challenger 350, operating as flight LXJ560, crossed runway 31C while taxiing on runway 04L. According to ADS-B tracking data, the Challenger 350 crossed the active runway at 14:48:17 UTC, prompting the Boeing 737-800, registered as N8517F, to execute a go-around maneuver. Delta Air Lines Boeing 717 Faces Two Smoke Incidents in Ten Days

Atlanta, GA – February 24, 2025 – A Delta Air Lines Boeing 717-200, registered as N942AT, was forced to return to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) shortly after takeoff due to smoke filling the cabin. The flight, operating as DL876 to Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE), landed safely on runway 27L just 11 minutes after departure from runway 27R. Passengers and crew evacuated the aircraft without reported injuries thankfully. Delta Air Lines Boeing 717 faces two smoke incidents in 10 days, prompting emergency landings.  Incident Details The aircraft had just commenced its initial climb when smoke was detected in the cabin, prompting the crew to initiate an emergency return.
