Tragic accident involving a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, registered HS-SKR.

The Aircraft operated by Thai Flying Service Co Ltd. The accident occurred on 22 August 2024 in Wat Khao Din, Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province Thailand.

Sadly all nine occupants on board perished, and the aircraft was destroyed.

Aircraft Type and Flight

Aircraft: Cessna 208B Grand Caravan (registration HS-SKR) ,  light utility turboprop 1 Turboprop engine, First flight was1982 , 761 occurrences and 551 fatalities in the ASN safety database

Flight: Designated as TFT209, the flight was En route from Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi International Airport (VTBS) to Ko Mai Si Airport, a private airstrip for the Soneva Kiri Hotel.

Age of Aircraft: Manufactured in 2007, making the aircraft 17 years old at the time of the accident.

Crash Location

The crash occurred in Wat Khao Din, Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province, Thailand. This area is near the destination of the flight but not an immediate vicinity to any major airports, suggesting potential issues while En route.

Weather Conditions

Weather at both Bangkok (VTBS) and Rayong (VTBU) was generally clear, with visibility at 10 kilometers (9999), light winds (ranging from 07-09 knots), few clouds at 2000 feet, and temperatures between 31-34°C. There were no significant weather (NOSIG) changes expected.

The weather reports indicate no severe weather conditions like storms, turbulence, or visibility issues that could have contributed to the crash.

Crash Details

The narratives mentioned that the crash occurred under "unknown circumstances," meaning the cause is still undetermined at the time of reporting.

The location and phase of flight (En route) suggest that the crash likely happened during the cruise phase, but further details would be needed from investigations.

Possible Considerations

Mechanical Failure: Given the aircraft's age, mechanical failure is a possibility, though modern Cessna 208Bs are generally reliable.

Pilot Error or Other Human Factors: Human factors cannot be ruled out, but there is no data available such issues at this point, we should back to medical status of pilot.

Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT): Considering the area was En route and might have varying terrain, CFIT could be a potential cause pending further investigation.

Sabotage or External Factors: While there are no reports sabotage, it's an angle that investigators often review in accidents with no clear initial cause.

This information is primarily from unofficial sources like news and social media. Hence, more concrete findings will likely emerge once formal investigations proceed by the appropriate aviation safety authorities.

While the exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined, initial indicators point to no extreme weather interference. Mechanical failure, CFIT, or pilot error could be likely factors, but these are speculative until further investigation.

Aviation Safety Analysis: Accidents, Fatalities, Nature and Causes (2019 - 2024)

This report presents an in-depth analysis of aviation accidents and fatalities over the past year (2019 - 2024), based on data driven from the Aviation Safety Network’s global accident database. It provides a comprehensive breakdown of incidents by flight nature, phase of flight, accident location, and primary causes. The objective is to identify key trends and contributing factors, offering valuable insights into aviation safety and risk mitigation. The analysis is structured around five key breakdowns: Aircraft Type – Categorizing accidents by aircraft model (Jet, Piston, Turboprop). Fatal vs. Non-Fatal – Differentiating incidents based on severity and casualty levels. Land vs. Water Accidents – Identifying accident locations and environmental factors. Airliner vs. Corporate Jet – Comparing accident data across commercial and private aviation sectors. Incident Breakdown: Events & Fatalities – Total number of accidents ( 907 ) and associated fatalities ( 1304 ). Ground Fatali...
