Incident Averted: Two Aircraft Nearly Collide at Nashville International Airport

On September 12, 2024, quick thinking by Alaska Airlines pilots helped avoid a potential disaster at Nashville International Airport (BNA).

The Boeing 737 MAX, set for flight AS369 to Seattle, had been cleared for takeoff when they noticed a Southwest Airlines plane heading toward the same runway. The Alaska Airlines crew applied emergency brakes while traveling at approximately 120 mph (193 km/h), successfully avoiding a collision.

No passengers were harmed, though the tires on the Alaska aircraft blew out from the sudden stop. All 176 passengers were transferred to another plane and safely continued their journey. Investigations by the FAA and NTSB are ongoing, with both airlines cooperating fully.
