Two Men Killed in Kenai Peninsula Plane Crash

Ninilchik, Alaska – Two men tragically lost their lives in a plane crash on the Kenai Peninsula on Friday, September 13.

According to the Alaska State Troopers, the single-engine Champion 7GCBC Citabria crashed near Tustumena Lake, northeast of Ninilchik.

The pilot, 70-year-old Danny Presley of Happy Valley, and his sole passenger, 58-year-old Keith Presley of Ninilchik, were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred around 11:25 AM local time, prompting a swift response from the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of the accident. According to NTSB Alaska chief Clint Johnson, the plane went down in a hilly area with sparse trees, roughly 20 miles east of Ninilchik.

The bodies of both victims were transported to the State Medical Examiner Office, and their families have been notified. The Alaska State Troopers spokesperson, Austin McDaniel, stated that a good Samaritan aircraft reported the crashed plane.

While the exact origin and destination of the flight are still unknown, the NTSB is working to gather more information regarding the purpose of the flight in the area. As part of their investigation, the NTSB will be recovering the wreckage and conducting a thorough examination of the crash site.
