On the morning of October 20, 2024, a SAM Air-operated DHC-6 Twin Otter, registered as PK-SMH, tragically crashed during its approach to Bumi Panua Pohuwato Airport in Gorontalo Province, Indonesia.

Timeline of Events

The aircraft departed from Gorontalo-Jalaluddin Airport (GTO) at 07:02 local time, embarking on a scheduled short-haul flight to Bumi Panua Pohuwato Airport. The flight, which was expected to be routine, took a fatal turn during its final approach to runway 27.

At around 07:22, the Twin Otter lost contact with air traffic control. It crashed into a waterlogged field near the airport, causing the complete destruction of the aircraft.
