Rossiya Airlines Flight SDM6531 – Airbus A319 Experiences In-Flight Fuel Leak

Rossiya Airlines Flight SDM6531, an Airbus A319 with registration RA-73204, was operating a scheduled passenger service from Saint Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport (LED) to Almaty Airport (ALA).

Mid-flight, around 180 kilometers southeast of Nizhny Novgorod at an altitude of 10,650 meters, the flight crew noticed an unusual increase in fuel consumption on the right engine. This was accompanied by a significant discrepancy of nearly one ton in the fuel readings between the left and right wing tanks.

Upon detecting these irregularities, the crew suspected a possible fuel leak. For precautionary safety measures, they coordinated with air traffic control and decided to divert the flight to Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, which was selected as the alternate landing location. The landing was executed successfully, with no injuries reported among the 115 people on board.

Maintenance personnel at Sheremetyevo conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft following the incident. They discovered traces of a kerosene leak originating from the drainage pipe of the right engine, confirming the crew’s suspicion of a fuel leak. The Airbus A319 was subsequently grounded to allow for repair and thorough inspection to ensure future operational safety.

This incident was reported based on information from news sources and social media, with no fatalities or injuries sustained.
